Dear Steve –

It was fascinating to read about your career development and investment approach in the 9/3/25 issue of the Blue Chip Investor and how you inadvertently became involved with Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway 35 years ago.  This chance connection became the foundation block for Check Capital Management which has become an extremely successful investment management firm.  Suzy and I became clients 26 years ago.  Where does the time go?  I was 31 years in the food service industry primarily working in marketing with Durkee Famous Foods, Rich Products Corporation and the Kitchens of Sara Lee.  After leaving Sara Lee in 1979 I inadvertently became involved with a ‘search’ to fill an A.E. position with Campbell-Mithun Advertising in Chicago.  This was successful and I then established Rummel & Associates, Inc. and worked the entire country for 19 years placing sales and marketing managers with foodservice manufacturers.  I retired in 1998 at age 58.  It is indeed incredible what can sometimes transpire because of inadvertent events and chance encounters.

All the best,

Peter R., Check Capital Client Since 1999
